Rising threat of Islamic hackers from Turkey, Morocco & Pakistan;
USA, Germany and UK targeted; France and Russia spared

London, UK - 6 February 2004, 16:00 GMT - According to a study just completed by the mi2g Intelligence Unit for major financial services groups in the City of London, Islamic hackers from Turkey, Morocco and Pakistan have been increasingly active since 9/11. Hacker groups from those countries as well as Indonesia, Malaysia and Saudi Arabia have shown recent signs of further cross-country collaboration, rejuvenation and developing skill-sets. The Internet relay chat, instant messaging and free email accounts are acting as open university tools for hacking. Many macro-hacking groups are emerging as a result that bring together disparate strands of Islamic hacking expertise from North Africa, the Russian Federation, the Levant region, Gulf Co-operation Council (GCC) countries, South Asia and the Far East.
