Lunar Eclipse, Winter Solstice - What does Synchronicity Mean?

London, UK - 21st December 2010, 20:55 GMT

Once in 372 years

The full lunar eclipse and winter solstice are coinciding for the 1st time since 1638. This synchronised union has not been seen in 372 years. As a result, the sun and moon-in-eclipse may be visible briefly at the same time on Tuesday, 21st December! This wondrous event comes at the end of the first decade of the 21st century. What an amazing way to complete the first decade and begin the new year!

Lunar Eclipse and Winter Solstice

Special Significance

Does this celestial synchronicity hold special significance for those that tap into the energy of the winter solstice, the shortest day of the year, at a time that is traditionally associated with the rebirth and renewal of the sun and solar power?

Transformation

In essence, it's a step-by-step transformation from darkness into light. Given that light from the sun and the moon's reflection are almost at their darkest at this point in time, this further emphasizes this point of inflection. When things may seem really bleak, isn't that our biggest opportunity for personal transformation and metamorphosis?

Male and Female Energies

Some suggest the great significance associated with the unique coupling of the masculine energy of the sun and the feminine energy of the moon. Both energies in union create. That creative process enables transcendence and transformation.

Greco-Roman Festivities

Even before the advent of Christianity, more than two thousand years ago, the winter solstice played an important role in Greco-Roman rituals and those of other cultures and civilisations across the world. Some historians suggest that the modern Christmas period synchronises with those traditional pagan festivals remarkably well.

Astronomy and Astrology

The winter solstice is seen as a time of rebirth or renewal because after this event, light begins to come back and the days start getting longer step-by-step! Eclipses can be taken as on omen of good or bad depending on interpretation. Either way, they herald transition and the winter solstice's synchronicity with the lunar eclipse lends the event a positive significance. Astronomers say that it's all just a coincidence. It is quite rare, but there is no profound significance... Scientists can be dull like that sometimes... We know because we make it a point to meet and greet as many as we can regularly!

Non-Duality

From a non-duality perspective, it is helpful not to think of things or particular events as being good or bad -- they just are! Our perception of them colors the ensuing experiences which make them positive or negative for us. However, all events carry energy and given their quantum, if harnessed appropriately, enable personal and wider transformation! No harm in believing that. Beats indifference.
